The Eugene Emeralds got a stellar effort from pitcher Chuck Easton, helping Eugene score a 3-2 win over the visiting Bethesda Hornets. Easton got the win, improving to 8-7. He allowed 4 hits and walked 3 over 5.1 innings. Easton allowed 2 earned runs. Hiroo Okimura notched his 11th save in 17 chances.
The Emeralds beat the Hornets in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Lance Russell produced in the bottom of the first. Batting against Bethesda pitcher Javier Rodríguez, Russell gave his team a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
"I was a little disappointed," said Bethesda manager Francisco Solano. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
The Emeralds now own a record of 74-86.
