Victoria Vikings starter Kevin Murphy turned in a sterling performance against the Nichols Gnats, leading his team to a slim 3-2 win. Murphy, the winner, moves to 14-7. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 1 walk. The first-place Vikings, at 97-62, now lead their division by 3 games.
With one out in the top of the fifth, José López hit a go-ahead run-scoring double. It was his 53rd double of the season and with it the Vikings took a 2-1 lead.
