Goldsmith Powers Gnats to 9-2 Win
The Nichols Gnats defeated the Victoria Vikings, 9-2, at The Pond. Nichols third baseman Trevor Goldsmith was named player of the game for his superb performance. He was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 6 RBI and scoring once. Gilberto Vega, the winner, improved to 1-1. He held Victoria to 1 earned run on 4 hits over 6 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. Eddie Pena locked down his 2nd save.

Goldsmith brought the fans to their feet in the bottom of the third, when the 20-year old third baseman ripped a grand slam home run. The round-tripper put Nichols ahead, 5-1.

"We took it on the chin today," said losing manager Bernardo Moreno.

Nichols, now 48-110, holds 5th place in the Lyman Bostock League Earl Weaver Division.
