Warriors Clip Gnats in Tight Contest
|
Benefiting from T.J. Little's productive game, the Winfield Warriors downed the Nichols Gnats, 7-4. Little went 2-4 with 2 doubles and a walk. He scored 2 times for the Warriors. Winfield reliever Emilio Peres was the winner. His record is now 2-0. The losing pitcher was Dave Basurto. Winfield's record now stands at 75-80, placing them 4th in the Lyman Bostock League Earl Weaver Division.
A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the sixth inning when the Warriors sent teenager Alex Moreno to the plate against Gnats hurler Alberto Fernández. With the bases loaded and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a first pitch fastball to score 2.
In postgame comments to the Winfield Citizen, Little said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
