Great Day for Coles in Black Squirrels Win
The Tree City Black Squirrels defeated the Eugene Emeralds, 8-6, at Prefontaine Park today. Leading the charge for Tree City was third baseman Doyle Coles. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Getting the save was Cory Kieck, his 39th. The first-place Black Squirrels, at 97-53, now lead their division by 9˝ games.

The contest featured some late-game dramatics from Tree City designated hitter Brian Briggs. In the top of the eighth inning, with one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Briggs hit a 3-run home run to help Tree City seize the win.

"Other than the game," said Coles, "we haven't won anything yet."
