Charleston catcher David Giese had a 3-RBI performance, which helped his team grab a 5-3 win over the Kingwood Knights. The winner was Charleston reliever David Stafford, now 4-3. The loser was Jeff Bearce. Naozane Kato earned the save, his 15th.

In a game filled with surprises, perhaps none was as big as Giese's contribution. The Charleston catcher is a relative newcomer. With one out in the top of the seventh, when the Panthers had runners on 1st and 2nd, Giese delivered a crucial 3-run home run.

"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Charleston manager Ánibal Machado.

Charleston, at 78-72, sits in third place in the Lyman Bostock League Dick Williams Division.
