Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Gnats
|
Well, that's how to end a game in style.
The Nichols Gnats faced a tough opponent in Chippewa pitcher Juan Lara, but did just enough to pull out the victory at The Pond by a final score of 5-4. Lara went 5 innings and allowed no earned runs. Even with the win, the Gnats have a dismal 43-105 record.
When he came to bat in the bottom of the 12th, Tony Cervantes had a chance to end it. Chippewa pitcher Eddie Zuniga had other ideas. But with no outs, Cervantes hit a sacrifice fly. The Gnats had the win.
"This game tested our mettle," said Cervantes.
