Rain could not dampen the pregame excitement of West Virginia fans at Penlee Park. But the subsequent loss, and a disappointing one at that, to the Hornets had to.
The Bethesda Hornets pounded the West Virginia Dancin' Outlaws, 15-2, at Penlee Park. Bethesda second baseman Andrés Morales was named player of the game for his performance. He was 2 for 3 with a double and 3 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Tim Gary, credited with the win, is now 2-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. Bruce Berardi finished the game for Bethesda and earned his 2nd save.
Francisco Molina came through for Bethesda when he hit a 2-run double in the top of the fifth. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a 1-1 fastball to right field, staking his team to a 4-2 lead.
"The score speaks for itself," said losing manager Enrique Ramírez. "It was embarrassing."
The Hornets improve their record to 74-72 with the win over West Virginia.
