5 Straight Wins for Hornets
|
The Hornets grabbed a win, 3-2, at Billy Mathews Field, overcoming a fine effort from St. Petersburg pitcher José Carlos Ramírez. Ramírez went 5 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Bethesda reliever Jose Rios got the win, raising his record to 1-2. José Carlos Ramírez was tagged with the loss. Hiroshi Nagasawa earned the save for Bethesda, his 36th of the year.
A critical at-bat came in the top of the seventh inning when the Hornets sent 21-year-old third baseman Ramón Roniero to the plate with runners on 1st and 3rd. The youngster shook off the pressure and hit a sacrifice fly, to put Bethesda on top, 3-0.
"That's baseball," said St. Petersburg manager Clement Snow. "You're not always going to be hitting on all cylinders."
The last-place Pelicans have dropped 4 straight games.
