Russell Powers Emeralds to 4-2 Win
|
The Eugene Emeralds trumped the Coney Island Cyclones, 4-2, at Prefontaine Park. Eugene designated hitter Lance Russell was named player of the game for his performance. He was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Chuck Easton, the winner, improved to 6-5. He held Coney Island to no earned runs on 5 hits over 5.2 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. Hiroo Okimura sewed up the save, his 6th.
Eugene grabbed the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, when Russell hit a 2-run home run. His 10th home run of the season put the Emeralds out in front, 2-0.
"We did enough to win," said Russell.
Eugene currently is in 5th place in the Donnie Moore League Tommy Lasorda Division at 58-73.
