Emeralds Edge New Orleans in Pitching Duel
|
In a well-pitched game between the Eugene Emeralds and the New Orleans Jedi Knights, pitcher Mauro Vázquez was fantastic. The Eugene right-hander was named the player of the game in Eugene's 1-0 win. Hiroo Okimura got the save, his 5th in 9 chances. At 56-71, Eugene is in 5th place in the Donnie Moore League Tommy Lasorda Division.
Umito Kono contributed an important at-bat in the top of the seventh. With a runner on 1st, he hit a single. It was one at-bat that helped send Eugene to the win.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Kono.
