Pelicans Snatch Late Win
|
St. Petersburg starter Kevin Bongarzone pitched effectively against the Palm Beach Bums at Envoys Ballpark. The right-hander led his team to a 6-4 win. St. Petersburg reliever Brad Leys picked up the win, upping his record to 2-5. Charlie Cruz took the loss. Julián Salazar earned the save for St. Petersburg, his 1st of the year.
Had it not been for Ismael Correa, the results might have been different. In the top of the eighth inning, when the Pelicans were trailing 4-3, Correa hit a 2-run double for St. Petersburg, giving his team the lead.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Correa told a St. Petersburg Daily reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
St. Petersburg is now 47-77, while Palm Beach is 51-75.
