Emeralds Best Black Squirrels in Pitching Duel

Eugene rode a good effort from starter Mauro Vázquez to beat the Tree City Black Squirrels at The Nut House. The final score was 2-1. Hiroo Okimura was credited with the save for Eugene, his 3rd of the season. The Emeralds sit in 5th place in the Donnie Moore League Tommy Lasorda Division with a record of 51-67.
The Emeralds beat the Black Squirrels in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Luke Riviere produced in the top of the fifth. Batting against Tree City pitcher Terry Duncan, Riviere gave his team a 2-1 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
"We did just enough to win," Riviere said.
