Pelicans Get 4-3 Win Versus Barrow
|
The St. Petersburg Pelicans and Barrow Frosties played an exciting game at Billy Mathews Field.
St. Petersburg withstood an impressive performance by Barrow center fielder Bill Corkum to defeat the Frosties, 4-3, at Billy Mathews Field. Corkum went 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 times. Gabriel Mendoza earned the win for St. Petersburg. He lasted 6.1 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 7 hits, while striking out 7. With the win, he raised his record to 1-3. Jaiden Harris earned the save, his 12th.
Tied up with the Frosties in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Pelicans got a boost from center fielder Tim Beeman. With the bases loaded, Beeman saw a first pitch sinker from Troy Hannah and hit a 2-run single to break the stalemate and put St. Petersburg on top, 4-2.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Beeman told the St. Petersburg Daily.
With the win, St. Petersburg goes to 44-69, while the Frosties fall to 73-39.
