Boise second baseman Glenn Wilson pounded Chippewa River Chiefs pitchers at Grand Canyon Valley Park, but it was not enough to keep the Bloodhounds from falling, 8-4. Wilson was 2-3 with 2 home runs and was hit by a pitch, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Brad Ide, the winner, improved to 4-4. He held Boise to 2 earned runs on 3 hits over 7 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. The second-place River Chiefs have won 4 straight games.
A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the fifth inning when the River Chiefs sent teenager Jesus Rosendo to the plate against Bloodhounds hurler Francisco Valenzuela. With the bases loaded and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a double off a 2-1 fastball to score 3.
"I like seeing our guys get a return on what they've put in," said Chippewa manager Bruce Leah.
