Cyclones Need Extras to Top Sting
|
The Coney Island Cyclones wiggled past the Houston Sting, 7-6, at Woodland Park. Coney Island first baseman Ed Jackson earned player of the game honors. Reliever Joe Schrock picked up the win. His record improves to 2-2. Jeff Van Wormer took the loss. Dave Cutlip got the save, the 1st for him this season.
The most important at-bat for Coney Island came in the top of the 13th inning. With no one out, Nick DeLuca reached on an error by the center fielder, driving in 1 run, putting Coney Island up, 4-3.
"We had a chance to win," said Houston manager Héctor Flores, "but we didn't get it done."
The last-place Cyclones improved to 43-59.
