The Nichols Gnats stymied the Bel Air Princes, 5-2, at The Pond. Rafael Gómez, who had a good day at the plate, was named player of the game. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for Nichols. Nichols reliever Dave Basurto picked up the win, upping his record to 3-5. Quiang Tu took the loss. Nichols is now 29-72, Bel Air 39-59.
Nichols took a 3-2 lead on David Rivera's 15th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Rivera hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Bel Air pitcher Quiang Tu shaking his head.
Gómez said afterward that he was glad to contribute to the win.
