The exploits of catcher Jasper Francis helped the Nichols Gnats defeat the Bel Air Princes, 5-2. Francis was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The winner was Dave Basurto in relief. His record improves to 2-5. Jose Arguinzoni took the loss. Arturo Gallegos closed the door for Nichols, picking up his 13th save of the year.
Oscar Abreu contributed a productive at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With the bases loaded, he hit a sacrifice fly. It was one at-bat that helped Nichols get the win.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Nichols manager Reese O'Higgins. "Our pregame was pretty good."
Even with the win, the Gnats have a dismal 28-71 record.
