The Bel Air Princes and Bethesda Hornets played a tight game at Philip Banks Field, with the hosts claiming the hard-fought win.
Eugene Spencer could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Bethesda Hornets lost, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Bel Air Princes at Philip Banks Field. Lee Krause got credit for the win, improving to 1-3. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings.
The Hornets had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Princes going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 20-year old right fielder Wayne Steiert came to the plate. Steiert hit a 2-run double on a 1-1 fastball from Bethesda hurler Eugene Spencer. It was Steiert's 7th double of the year.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Steiert told the Bel Air Bulletin.
The last-place Princes now have a win-loss record of 32-52.
