Emeralds Come Back Late, Nip Panthers
|
The Eugene Emeralds topped the Charleston Panthers, 4-3, with youngster Zhu Mar playing a key role. Mar was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Emeralds in the win. Eugene reliever Chuck Easton was credited with the win, to go to 3-2. Brian Mullins took the loss for Charleston. Andy Ryan earned the save for Eugene, his 16th.
Jeff Fosbrink made it 4-3 in favor of Eugene when he delivered a run-scoring single. It came with one out in the top of the eighth. The Emeralds went on to win.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Charleston skipper Ánibal Machado.
The 5th-place Emeralds improved to 34-45.
