St. Petersburg pitcher Nelson Cardona did his part in helping his team beat the Kingwood Knights, 9-1. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. St. Petersburg is now 30-46.

St. Petersburg took the lead with one out in the bottom of the first when Zach Varn stroked a run-scoring double. That made the score 1-0 in favor of St. Petersburg. For the day, Varn went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.

Pelicans manager Clement Snow had nothing but praise for his players after an impressive win, calling the result one of the team's best performances of the season. "Everything just came together on our end," he said. "I didn't need to do too much."
