Black Squirrels Stick Shade with 5-1 Loss
|
Tree City catcher Mark Southland had a 3-RBI game, which helped his team beat the Stroudsburg Shade, 5-1. Tree City reliever Esteban Ruíz picked up the win, upping his record to 7-1. Gohta Yamashiro shouldered the loss. At 44-31, the Black Squirrels find themselves in second place in the Donnie Moore League Tommy Lasorda Division.
The Black Squirrels got a big at-bat from third baseman John Gero. For the game, Gero was 1 for 4. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 64th hit of the season gave Tree City a 2-1 lead.
"Being able to play a game for a living is one thing. Being able to play it well and contribute to a win is even better," Gero told the Tree City Daily.
