River Chiefs Sneak Past Jedi Knights, 6-5
|
The New Orleans Jedi Knights got a sterling performance from third baseman Jesse Sutton, but the River Chiefs still prevailed, 6-5. Sutton was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He went 1 for 2 with a home run, a walk, and was hit 2 times, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Chippewa reliever Eddie Zuniga picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-3. Rich Owen was collared with the loss. Chippewa has now reeled off 6 straight wins.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Chippewa designated hitter Norm Stewart, facing Jason Ball, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the River Chiefs the 6-5 win.
"We battled our tails off to get this win," said Chippewa manager Bruce Leah.
