Republic Come Up Short at Portland
The Portland Beavers did just enough to secure a 6-5 victory over the So Cal Republic at Waterfront Park. Nobody did more than designated hitter Lai-hsiang Xiu, who captured player of the game honors. Portland starter Félix Reina was credited with the win after throwing 99 pitches over 6.1 innings. His record now stands at 6-2. Portland occupies 5th place in the Roberto Clemente League Christian Latulippe Division at 26-31.

Xiu's nice game included a clutch 2-run home run in the bottom of the second.

"Scoring runs is scoring runs," said Portland skipper Ryan Blandford. "It's important to have different ways to do it."
