Mustangs Edge St. Paul in Pitching Duel

In a tight battle between the San Angelo Mustangs and the St. Paul Saints, pitcher Oscar Mata was in the zone. The San Angelo right-hander was named the player of the game in San Angelo's 1-0 win. San Angelo reliever Tom Bowen got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Seijii Matsumura was tagged with the loss. San Angelo now sits in third place in the Lyman Bostock League Earl Weaver Division at 38-29.
The San Angelo triumph was a team effort. Not least among the contributors was Roe Aamodt. In the bottom of the seventh, the San Angelo designated hitter hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 1-0 lead.
"The old adage is true," said Aamodt. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
