Warriors Knock Off Jedi Knights, 5-1
|
The Warriors faced a stiff challenge from New Orleans pitcher Jesús Espinosa, but persevered to claim a win at The Barn. The final score was 5-1. Espinosa went 5 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Oscar Rojas got credit for the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3.1 innings. Winfield is now 34-26, New Orleans 35-27.
Alex Velez had a go-ahead single for Winfield in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, the 19-year old shortstop hit a run-scoring single off Mike Huerta. His 59th hit of the season made the score 2-1.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Velez told the Winfield Citizen.
