Blue Claws Win in 14
|
In a tight game between the Baltimore Blue Claws and the Kingwood Knights, pitcher Oscar Saucedo was terrific on the mound. The Baltimore right-hander was named the player of the game in Baltimore's 1-0 win. Baltimore reliever Yoshiiku Kikuchi was the winner. His record is now 2-2. Colin Cole took the loss. The losing streak for Kingwood has now reached 4 games.
Coming to the plate with one out in the bottom of the 14th inning, Baltimore center fielder Justin Nance had a chance to be the hero. Facing Kingwood pitcher Colin Cole with a runner on 1st, Nance, who is tied for 6th in the BOL in extra base hits with 22, hit a walk-off run-scoring double.
During his postgame press conference, Blue Claws manager Bernard Jacq told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
