The Stroudsburg Shade topped the St. Petersburg Pelicans, 9-6, with youngster Jesus Plana playing a key role. Plana was 1-3 with 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Shade in the win. The third-place Shade raised their record to 31-26.
Simon Watkins contributed a productive at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With the bases loaded, he hit a sacrifice fly. It was one at-bat that propelled Stroudsburg to the win.
"We take it day by day here," said Plana, "and today was a good one for us."
