Dun, Panthers Too Much for Knights
|
Behind a solid performance from designated hitter Hua Dun, the Charleston Panthers defeated the Kingwood Knights, 13-7. Dun was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4 for the Panthers. Charleston reliever David Stafford was credited with the win, to go to 2-1. Toshio Kawabata took the loss for Kingwood. Charleston is now 25-31.
Winter Gardens, California-born Joseph Miller came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 3rd and the Panthers trailing 7-6, he hit a 2-run double to center to put Charleston on top.
Panthers manager Ánibal Machado wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
