Eugene overcame a superlative game from Bob Galloway to beat Tree City, 5-1. The Tree City pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball. The winner was Eugene reliever Chuck Easton, now 1-2. The loser was Cory Kieck. The Emeralds raised their record to 23-34.
Neither team could produce runs. So, José Román's at-bat in the top of the ninth was critical. With one out, the Eugene left fielder hit a 2-run double, to give his team a 3-1 lead.
"Anything I can do to help the team win," said Román.
