The Charleston Panthers beat the St. Petersburg Pelicans, 8-7 at Franklin Mountains Field, in part due to designated hitter Chad Dudley, who nabbed player of the game honors. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Masuhiro Miyazaki, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. Raúl Garza finished the game for Charleston and earned his 4th save.

Late-game drama came in the bottom of the eighth inning. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Charleston catcher Bob Scott hit a run-scoring single, helping his team get the win.

"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Ánibal Machado.

The Panthers saw their win-loss record go to 20-27. At the same time, the Pelicans fell to 18-29.
