The inspired effort of St. Petersburg designated hitter Zach Varn was not enough to prevent a 8-7 loss to the Palm Beach Bums. Varn went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. Today's win puts Palm Beach at 20-22, while St. Petersburg falls to 16-24.

A crucial at-bat came with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. That's when third baseman Bill Hardwick, the two overall pick in the 2031 draft, hit a run-scoring single. The Bums went on to win.

"We found a way to get it done," Hardwick said.
