River Chiefs Knock Off Blue Claws, 4-1

The Chippewa River Chiefs went home winners at Old Bay Park, thanks in large part to starter Jeff Stephens. Stephens silenced the Baltimore Blue Claws, enabling Chippewa to grab the 4-1 win. Brad Ide earned the save for Chippewa, his 9th of the year. The River Chiefs bumped their record to 24-15 with this latest triumph.
The Chippewa win was a team effort. It included major contributions from, among others, Waylon Swerdlow. In the top of the first, the Chippewa catcher came to bat and hit a 2-run home run. It staked his team to a 2-0 lead.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Swerdlow said.
