Rafael Gómez did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Nichols Gnats from losing, 9-8, to the Victoria Vikings at The drakkar. Gómez was 4-5 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The slumping Gnats have lost 7 straight.

Carlos Avendano said the idea of hitting a home run barely crossed his mind when he came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Avendano belted a solo home run to stake Victoria to a 9-8 lead. His 1st home run of the season came off Nichols pitcher Seisaburo Sasaki.

"This game tested our mettle," said Avendano.
