Earthquakes Come Back Late, Nip Bombers
|
The San Francisco Earthquakes faced a tough opponent in South Carolina pitcher Sotatsu Hayagawa, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Bomber Ballpark by a final score of 4-3. Hayagawa went 7.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. Reliever Eric Markle picked up the win. His record improves to 2-1. Aidan Carrick took the loss. The save was credited to Christian Wallace, his 10th.
The most critical at-bat came in the top of the ninth inning. With one out, Hisaji Maekawa hit a 1-1 fastball from Aidan Carrick for a grand slam home run. It put San Francisco in front, 4-3.
South Carolina manager Randy Huggett said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
San Francisco is now 22-30, South Carolina 30-21.
