Vikings Score Late, Upend Sting, 5-4

The Victoria Vikings picked up a win at The drakkar, knocking off the Houston Sting, 5-4. Starting pitcher Juan Cruz, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Victoria reliever Gerry LaForest was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Rennie Hill took the loss. The Sting, now 10-19, continue their poor start.
Shino Kikuchi provided some late-game heroics for Victoria. In the bottom of the eighth inning, he hit a run-scoring single. It came on a 2-2 cutter from Oscar Mata and propelled Victoria to a 4-3 lead.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Cruz said.
