Panthers Fall to .500 After Loss to Gnats
|
The Nichols Gnats took Charleston pitcher Jesús Morales's best shot and still were able to claim a win at The Pond. The final score had Nichols getting past the Panthers, 5-3. Morales went 5 innings and allowed 1 earned run, striking out 8. Nichols reliever Matt Walker was credited with the win, to go to 3-0. Jesús Morales took the loss for Charleston. Seisaburo Sasaki sewed up the save, his 3rd.
Also pitching in for Nichols was first baseman Ji-hoon Park, who hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, Park was 2-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Gnats manager Reese O'Higgins. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
The Gnats, with only their 7th win in 24 games, could be the worst team in the league.
