In a low-scoring clash between Victoria and Chippewa, pitcher Raúl Lugo was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned player of the game honors for Victoria in the 3-2 win. Victoria reliever Gerry LaForest picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Juan Lara was saddled with the loss. The River Chiefs drop to 10-11 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2032 season.
Late-game drama came in the bottom of the eighth inning. With one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Victoria first baseman José López hit a run-scoring single, helping his team get the win.
"It's a mindset," said Lugo. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."
