River Chiefs Thrash Gnats, 12-2

The Chippewa River Chiefs buried the Nichols Gnats, 12-2, under a barrage of hits. Kien Thean led the onslaught, going 3-for-4 for Chippewa. Things have gone south in a hurry for the defending champion River Chiefs, who notched only their 6th win in 16 games.
In the bottom of the 1st, Chippewa took the lead on a 2-run single by Norm Stewart. At the time, the River Chiefs were trailing 1-0, but Stewart's hit with two outs against Nichols pitcher Chris Lembke put them in front, 2-1.
"They took us to the woodshed," said Nichols manager Reese O'Higgins.
