DeLuca Powers Cyclones to 7-2 Win
|
The Coney Island Cyclones grabbed a 7-2 win over the Charleston Panthers at Franklin Mountains Field. Coney Island third baseman Nick DeLuca was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 to earn player of the game honors. Aaron Prine picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-0. He struck out 4 in 6 innings. Coney Island is now 10-5.
Tied up with the Panthers in the top of the fourth inning, the Cyclones got a boost from designated hitter Wes Coren. With the bases loaded, Coren saw a 1-2 splitter from Brad Bell and hit a 2-run single to break the stalemate and put Coney Island on top, 4-2.
"I like our moxie," said Cyclones manager Gerald Pugh.
