Vikings Top Warriors to Even Record
|
Victoria Vikings starter Pancho Meléndez was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Winfield Warriors, 3-2. Meléndez went 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 2-0. Gang Niu earned the save for Victoria, his 4th of the year.
Montijo, Panama-born José López came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded and the Vikings trailing 1-0, he hit a bases-clearing double to left to put Victoria on top.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Victoria manager Bernardo Moreno said.
The win lifts Victoria to a record of 7-7.
