In baseball, each game is unique. This one was no different.

Havana starter Ijaz Kharoti put a stranglehold on the New York offense. The right-hander had complete command of his change up in leading the Stogies to a 4-1 win. Kharoti, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. Teguh Suharto earned his 2nd save in 2 tries.

One of the key players for the Stogies was second baseman John Oakes, who drilled a run-scoring single in the top of the second inning. For the game, Oakes went 4-5 with 4 singles. He drove in 2 runs.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Havana manager Reynaldo Vázquez.

The Stogies, now 5-0, have been on a roll in the early going.
