Emeralds Come Back Late to Top Road Warriors
The Eugene Emeralds scored a 5-4 win versus the Westside Road Warriors at Prefontaine Park. Eugene right fielder Umito Kono nabbed top player honors in the tight contest. Joaquín Salas picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Clement Bowden was tagged with the loss. Andy Ryan picked up the save, his 4th.

In a game filled with surprises, perhaps none was as big as Kono's contribution. The Eugene right fielder is a relative newcomer. With no one out in the bottom of the eighth, when the Emeralds had a runner on 1st, Kono delivered a crucial 2-run home run.

"Baseball is about momentum," said Kono, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."

With the win, Eugene pushes its record to 7-5.
