Tuff scores 3 runs as Panthers Squeeze Past Kingwood
|
The rain could not keep the Franklin Mountains Field crowd from enjoying a good ballgame.
The Charleston Panthers did just enough to sneak past the Kingwood Knights, 6-5, at Franklin Mountains Field. Charleston shortstop Scott Tuff earned player of the game honors. The winner was Raúl Garza in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Chris Tattrie took the loss. Greg Martin sewed up the save, his 2nd.
Chad Dudley found himself in a pressure situation in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Kingwood hurler Colin Cole, the 20-year-old first baseman reached on an error by the SS, driving in 1 run. His 5th RBI of the season put the Panthers on top, 5-4.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Charleston manager Ánibal Machado.
Charleston, at 4-1, has sizzled in the early going.
