Bulldogs Spoil Great Performance by Middleton
|
The Spokane Bulldogs had to overcome a big game from Rock River right fielder Nelson Middleton to leave The Kennel with a 9-8 victory. Middleton was 2-2 with 2 home runs and 3 walks, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Reliever Rick Kay picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. Josh Hunt took the loss. Gareth King closed the door for Spokane, picking up his 1st save of the year.
Tied up with the Rats in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Bulldogs got a boost from second baseman Ricardo Fierro. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Fierro saw a 2-2 sinker from Micah Davis and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Spokane on top, 9-8.
"Guys always talk about winning games because of the 'little things,'" Fierro told the Spokane Times. "Call me old fashioned, but I think baseball is about the big things -- like scoring more runs."
Spokane has a 3-game win streak, while Rock River has lost 3 in a row.
