Buzzard's Bay and Phoenix played a hard-fought contest at UFO Field.

The Beetlecats had to overcome a fine performance from Phoenix pitcher José Castro to grab a 3-2 win at UFO Field. Castro allowed 2 earned runs over 7 innings. Buzzard's Bay reliever Bernardino Pacheco picked up the win, bumping his record to 5-7. Jorge Ramírez was collared with the loss. Yuko Kinoshita earned the save, his 7th, for the Beetlecats.

Ethan Gurston put Buzzard's Bay in front, 3-2, when he hit a 2-run home run off Jorge Ramírez in the top of the eighth. It was his 10th home run of the season.

In comments to the Buzzard's Bay Citizen, Gurston admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."

Buzzard's Bay occupies 5th place in the Cory Lidle League Gene Mauch Division at 69-87.
