The Spokane Bulldogs beat the Sandy Springs Spartans, 5-4 at The Kennel, in part due to catcher Oscar Mayes, who nabbed player of the game honors. He belted 2 home runs. With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 78-74.
The Bulldogs got an important contribution from first baseman Kendrick MacAulay, who in the bottom of the ninth punched a first pitch slider into center for a run-scoring single. It was his 131st hit of the season and put the Bulldogs ahead, 5-4.
"This joint was rocking," said Mayes.
