Big Day by Duarte Sparks Lights Win
|
A 4-RBI performance from the 23-year old center fielder Máximo Duarte helped the Phoenix Lights beat the Newark Jail Birds, 9-0. José Castro got the win, improving to 9-10. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 2 hits and no runs, while striking out 12 and walking 2. Getting the save was Seong-rae An, his 3rd.
Duarte was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4 against the Jail Birds. In the bottom of the first inning, he hit a 2-run home run that scored 2 and put Phoenix in front, 2-0.
Lights manager Michael Barnett had nothing but praise for his players after an impressive win, calling the result one of the team's best performances of the season. "Everything just came together on our end," he said. "I didn't need to do too much."
The Lights improve their record to 83-69 with the win over Newark.
