Ducks Rally For Late Win Over Cornhuskers
|
In a low-scoring game between Long Island and DeKalb, pitcher Bob Fleury was excellent. The Long Island left-hander was named the player of the game in Long Island's 2-1 win. Long Island reliever Bartolo Alicpa picked up the win to move to 4-4. David Gilmour suffered the loss. Yasukazu Kouda picked up the save for Long Island, his 5th of the year.
Runs were hard to come by in this one. Jim Willard's at-bat with two out in the top of the ninth, therefore, was critical. The Long Island third baseman hit a run-scoring double, to put his team on top, 2-1.
"If I do my job, we've usually got a good chance to win the game," said Willard.
The Ducks saw their win-loss record go to 65-88. At the same time, the Cornhuskers fell to 87-66.
