Ducks Go Down to Defeat, 8-7
|
In a tight contest at The Coliseum, the Sandy Springs Spartans edged the Long Island Ducks by the score of 8-7. Sandy Springs catcher Manolo González, who blasted 1 home run, was named the player of the game. Sandy Springs reliever Randy McKinney picked up the win, upping his record to 1-5. Eric Sanford was saddled with the loss. Tom Polk earned the save for Sandy Springs, his 22nd of the year.
The game hit a turning point in the bottom of the seventh inning, when the Spartans were trailing 7-6. Douglas Dill delivered a two-out 2-run single for Sandy Springs, catapulting his team into the lead.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Dill, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
The 5th-place Spartans raised their record to 66-83.
